Sorry for the hiatus, everyone! But I'm back!
As most of you know, Betty Crocker has a variety of gluten free mixes that you can find in your local grocery store (usually!). Last night, I joined my boyfriend and his housemates for "roommate dinner" and thought I would contribute the best part of the meal: dessert. I opted for Betty's gluten free Devil's Food Cake and the best frosting of all time: Rainbow Chip. After they each had three (3!!) pieces, they still couldn't tell that it was gluten free.
This cake is a breeze to mix and bake, and it is spongy, moist, and absolutely delicious--just like "regular" devil's food cake!
I haven't had the chance to try Betty Crocker's other mixes (vanilla cake, chocolate chip cookies, brownies), but after using this mix, I'd say they're definitely worth a shot!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!
This past week, my company had their annual Night with the Nats. Despite my obsession with sports, I usually loathe going to sporting events because I am surrounded by everything I loved to much on as a kid, but no longer can enjoy--soft pretzels, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, beer (ok, not as a kid). Thanks to Nationals Park, however, I can be a "normal" fan again!Friday, August 19, 2011
Hello Gluten Free!
If you live in DC, have a sweet tooth, and are plagued by a gluten sensitivity, chances are you have already stopped by Hello Cupcake! to satisfy your sugar craving.
O la Ella!
A friend of mine is heading back to Dallas after getting offered a dream job back in his TX hometown (bye Leon!). We decided to grab dinner before his big move, and I picked Ella's Wood Fired Pizza in Chinatown, on F. I'd heard they had gluten free pizza, so of course had to check it out myself.Calling all Capitol Celiacs!
A veteran of the DC area and Celiac Disease since 2007, I'm just a simple girl looking for some great gluten free beer and pizza...and cupcakes, and pasta, and bakery. Originally from Milwaukee, I've watched my hometown go from one, teeny tiny gluten free grocery store, to having multiple gluten free pizza places, burger places, bakeries, and even have gluten-free stands at the State Fair. My question is--wtf DC? Catch up!
In an effort to prove myself wrong, to show that DC is gluten free friendly, I've launched Capitol Celiacs, both as a place for me to blog about new places I've found or great brands to try, and as a forum for you to share you favorite place for a gluten free treat.
There is a graveyard of gluten free DC blogs that I've found, so let's hope this one can last :)
